Old normal

Selfie

I’ve been lucky enough this week to have a holiday in the Lake District. It feels like something very normal at last. The first two days have been glorious weather, the kind that you can confidently NOT pack a waterproof. I needed to get out for walk. What I’ve learnt over the years, is that there’s a distinction between going for a walk and taking my camera versus going out with the sole purpose of ‘doing photography’. I find it’s difficult to do both.

Having finished my walk a bit too quickly on the first day, I embarked on a bit of a monster of a walk on the second knowing that it could be the last day of really good weather. The route took me through the most picturesque areas which I took advantage of and will return to some day.

The very well photographed Ashness Bridge

For anyone interested, I began in Grange village and took a path up the ridge along to Ashness bridge. Then on to Walla Crag, Bleaberry Fell, across the peat bogs to High Seat, High Tove then descended via a beautiful path into Watlendeth, Rosthwaite then followed the Cumbria way back to Grange.

High Tove

One of the aims this week is to re-shoot Assignment Two. I went out yesterday to try to get some images. The weather was blustery and my legs were shot and it felt like a bit of struggle so I cut things short. Today however, things started to flow better. I’m completely comfortable now with a tripod and filters. I love the graduated filter, it makes so much difference. I’ve also learnt to slow down. I realised there was a point today where I started to loose concentration a bit and so have come back to my lovely cottage and reviewed my images.

I’m getting there I think. I’m going to have another session tomorrow, early before the rain starts. I’m trying to marry improved technique and composition within images that are meaningful. I’ve got fussy which I see as a good thing however I also have to accept that I lack experience but, I am making progress.

Hopefully I can catch up with the Landscape group tonight and see everyone’s progress!
